Job description & requirements

Join an Icon. Elevate the Experience. Be Part of a Melbourne Dining Legacy.

About the Venue

Since opening in 2014, Lucy Liu has cemented itself as a Melbourne dining institution — an award-winning, high-energy, architecturally designed restaurant, tucked away on Oliver Lane, off the Flinders Lane 'Paris-end' of the Melbourne CBD.

Known for its vibrant atmosphere, Modern-Asian flavours, inventive cocktails, and world-class wine list, Lucy Liu Melbourne continues to set the benchmark for casual fine dining in Melbourne and across Australia.

About the Role

We're seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Sommelier to help drive our wine program and deliver an unforgettable beverage experience to our guests.

You'll curate, guide, and elevate —

Along-side our Director of Beverage; your day to day will include curating and maintaining our dynamic wine list, leading guests on a journey of discovery of aroma and palate. The mentorship and tutelage of our front-of-house team, ensuring every service is delivered with confidence, warmth, and precision.

This is a full-time role with a five-day roster including weekends, offering creativity, autonomy, and the opportunity to shape one of Melbourne's most respected wine programs.

What We Offer

  • Competitive high-level salary, plus tips and excellent benefits
  • A supportive, close-knit team that feels more like family than just co-workers
  • Iconic venue and vibrant atmosphere — no two days are the same
  • A progressive, respected hospitality business known for nurturing great talent
  • Continual room for vertical growth and professional development
  • The chance to lead and evolve the wine program in one of Melbourne's most recognisable dining destinations

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum 2 years' experience as a Sommelier or in a senior wine-focused role
  • A deep knowledge of Old World and New World wines (predominantly European and Australian offerings), with a strong palate for pairing with Modern-Asian cuisine
  • A confident communicator who can engage guests and inspire the team
  • Passion for hospitality, with a flair for storytelling and creating memorable dining experiences
  • Being able to read the guest and have strong interpersonal skills.
  • To be sales-driven, creating both a great outcome for the business and the guest at the same time.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail in cellar management and stock control
  • WSET or equivalent wine qualifications highly regarded
  • Someone who thrives in high-energy environments and leads by example

If you're ready to bring your expertise, personality, and love of wine to one of Melbourne's most dynamic dining rooms — we'd love to meet you.
